Dr. Maria Montessori’s approach allows children to learn through exploring. Education is for life. Every child at Dew Drops Academy learns by doing what inspires them and discover their unique paths into the world.

Before we talk about the curriculum we need to talk about Education. What education really means? Most people associate education with schooling and something that is done by teachers to Students. Teachers educate and students become educated! However, in real-life situations Education is more than Schooling. Education is something that guides us to a happy and meaningful life. To lead a life we need to learn more than what is prescribed in our textbooks. WHO, UNICEF, UNESCO, and other organizations have done extensive research and have identified some significant life skills – Problem Solving, Critical Thinking, Effective Communication, Decision-Making, Creative Thinking, Interpersonal Relationship Skills, Self-Awareness, Empathy, and Coping with Stress & Emotions.

So clearly there are 2 parts – one is life skills and at the same time, we have academic requirements. How are we going to manage both? Can you teach life-skills?

At Dew Drops Academy, it is not the question of Life Skills v/s Academics, we always believe in Life Skills and Academics.

So, what exactly happens at Dew Drops Academy?

Let’s take an example;

Once when the discussion was veering towards elements and compounds, the adult working with that group of children decided to start from the beginning. In this case, the beginning meant the Big Bang Theory. Piecing together all the research and data they gathered, a picture slowly began to emerge. The children got an understanding of elements and how they were all actually formed right at the beginning of the universe. The adult, with his interactions, questions, and inquiry led the children towards actually creating the periodic table. This gave them a sense of how all the elements fell into place and the table got created. Our children actually work on and create many such formulae, tables, and equations as they would have been done in the past. This gives them a clear understanding of the concepts and in this process, they also cultivate a deep sense of gratitude towards all of the people who might have worked towards bringing about all the inventions and discoveries which are now easily available to us.

So basically, the children derive the periodic table rather than just carrying around and learning from one chart. At DDA, we explore and know-how and why everything is in a certain place. And this is just one of many such activities by the children that have led to such wonderful creations. In each of these activities, the children are at the center of the learning. They are exploring and creating new things every day.
